Our School Curriculum
At St Michael's Junior Church School we believe that a school curriculum should be broad and balanced, offering children the opportunity to achieve success in many different areas. Although our curriculum is based on the 2014 National Curriculum, there are other planned opportunities that make up the wider curriculum.
We follow a part discrete and part theme-based approach to learning, in the belief that children learn best when logical connections are made between different subjects and aspects of their work. The whole school follow timetabled Maths and English (incorporating reading, writing, spelling and grammar) lesson each and every day. Afternoon sessions follow a thematic approach as well as discrete subject such as Computing, PE and RE.
We believe passionately in giving the children ownership of their learning. We support our children in becoming ‘aspirational’ – aiming high and working together – in order to make the most of their learning opportunities. St Michael's Junior Church School believes in an active partnership between school, pupil and home.
Teaching and Learning is matched to pupils preferred learning styles, is differentiated to match ability and makes the most of our developing provision to support this. This is supplemented by a range of opportunities including educational trips, activities, links with external organisations and experiences within the local environment and beyond.
